Echo 1 Is Coming to South Florida.

Just watch the video.

Bird’s Eye View of Field

A lot of people have been asking what the field is and where is it. Where I cannot give out the exact location due to insurance and safety reasons, however photos never hurt anyone. I have also decided to do a basic mock-up with what we have in mind. Nothing to scale and nothing too in depth. Just a rough sketch of what we have in mind. The big red line is our fence as well as including a small target range for people to check out replicas, or tune them in. Hope you like it!

Just How BIG is Airsoft?

Down here in Florida, our locations and demographic is a bit, well diverse for sure. AOs or Areas of Operation are few and far between. Literally speaking! You have to drive at least an hour or two to play at a legit field and well, not all of them are up to par. The good thing about them, they are there for us. Someone is taking the time to put something together for the community using what they have. Ingenuity is what I like to call that. It is why I am doing what I am doing with this organization. To make that gap smaller for players of the community.

The players in South Florida are growing on a weekly basis. There is always someone getting into the sport/hobby for whatever reason. Their kid plays it, and they want to spend time with them. Perhaps its the sense of brotherhood you get. Maybe you cant get into the military and this is your way of paying homage to the men and women of our armed forces, or maybe they are using it as a stress reliever, whatever the case they are interested.

And to give you an idea of how diverse and large this community (the airsoft community as a whole) is, and not too mention developed, check out this video from Operation Lion Claw Military Simulation Series (OCLMSS). Run by John Lu, he puts on the best of the best in military simulation games for our community. Always giving back to the military community as well. If you are unfamiliar with this name, I strongly recommend doing some research and checking him as well as all other events he has put on with his crew.

Truly and inspiration to me and a goal that I think our community here in South Florida is capable of reaching, giving we work together to make it happen. Check out this video with some clip and interviews with the various players from one of their events. This will really give you a great idea how how large this game is and how much larger it is becoming.

Then ask yourself, who really plays airsoft these days? This promo video should help you answer that question.

Tactical MilSim Magazine and the SFAA.

Recently, I have been fortunate enough have a lengthy conversation with the Owner of Tactical MilSim Magazine MSG (Ret) Howard “Mad Max” Mullen. For those who are unfamiliar with that name, allow me to help explain.

Master Sergeant (Ret.) Howard “Mad Max” Mullen, a 26 year United States Army veteran, is known as one of the most dynamic Rangers to ever serve in the US Army. Beginning in 1979, Mullen served with the elite fighting force group through the decade and into the mid-1990s. During “Operation Urgent Fury” on October 25, 1983, Mullen conducted a 500ft combat parachute assault on the island of Grenada. He has over 250 static line airborne jumps. MSG Mullen is also well known and respected in the mil-sim community and has participated in some of the largest mil-sim events in the US. His experience bridges the gap from real-world military and law enforcement to the tactical mil-sim community. In addition, Mullen has appeared in movies, books, magazines, commercials, and national print ads, as well as public speaking engagements.

MSG Mullen stands behind our cause and look in the future for more to come with us and Tactical MilSim magazine. Mr. Mullen believes that we are doing can not only help bridge the gap between our local community members and our airsoft community but the gap between us and our local law enforcement community. Stay tuned for more great information regarding this relationship and our new field. Until then, please enjoy this commercial, as I know most of you will.

Airsoft Is Under Attack. AGAIN!

It seems that there are some senators out there that have nothing better to do with their time then to waste everyone that of everyone else. Many of us remember not too long ago the  California airsoft community came under attack to put a ban on airsoft. Now, New Jersey has a fight on their hands. Where they are not banning airsoft, they are making so that these replicas are to be classified as real firearms. Let me say that again, real firearms. SB S810 is the new enemy community. And again, we must stand up for not only our rights, but to show that they are making a huge mistake. We do not have to tell you to do this respectfully, but we will anyway. There are many ways you can help stand up and below are those ways. Let’s stand together, yet again as the growing community that we are. Thank you and good luck to everyone in Jersey. We know Pat at Godfather and his following will most certainly be making their stand!

CALL these two NJ Senators who drafted S810 to opose S810
Airsoft is NOT and SHOULD NOT be classified as Fire Arm!!

A Letter from the Parks and Recreation Department

Not too long ago we received a letter from the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department so that we may be able to show that we are working hand in hand with the County in providing a safe location for our community. Check it out, I think these are great steps for our community and its going to be a great year for us!

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 14,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 5 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Airsofters for Abigail

Once in a while a cause comes around where you cannot help but want to be a part of. Whether or not you donate, but the act of sharing and spreading a word can do so much more. Such is the case for the Fleck family. Originally a family of five with a two person income, they welcomed their daughter, Abigail who was born with Trisomy18. She requires 24 hour care. Now they are a family of six with a income of one. Nick Fleck has come up with a way to help make extra money but it is helping going towards Abigail’s care. For a measly $8 you can get a parachord bracelet hand made by Nick at home and you can, for a moment do something that helps a family in need this Holiday season. Please take a moment to watch the video, share and even donate. They have all sorts of bracelets available and would make a great stocking stuffer for your family members, sports fans or military enthusiasts.  Check out the etsy link here, but please listen to the story first and lets help make a difference this Holiday season. Thank you and Happy Holidays from the South Florida Airsoft Association, Inc.

A Letter from the SFAA President

To all community members and supporters,

I would first like to thank everyone that has gotten us to the point where we are. We are still far from our goal, however we will not stop until this goal is reached. For the past few weeks, we have been dealing with some personal issues and had to step back for a bit to get things in order.

We are working very hard on getting it all back on track. We have some prizes to give away as well as new items to give away as gifts. Lots of promotions coming as well as other great fundraisers to help us get over this small hurdle. There has been a large influx of help from outside the Florida Airsoft community and we cannot thank the airsoft community enough for all that you have been doing. Players, retailers, manufacturers from California to Denmark we have been getting support. This just goes to show that the entire community sees the potential in this project.  A chance for the public to understand the appeal of airsoft to not only minors, but to everyone that participates in this great sport.

With that said, again, I would like to thank everyone that has been standing behind us and supporting us. It is more appreciated and we are more grateful than you can ever imagine. We will not stop, and we will not fail.

Respectfully,

Daniel Stein

President/Founder – SFAA, Inc.

In just a matter of 11 hours or so, we were able to raise over $300.00 in donations from across the globe. Just amazing! Lets keep this momentum going! Thank you to everyone that has donated and supported our cause. This is still going to take some time, but if we actually keep it going at this rate we can do this in no time. Thank you again on behalf of the South Florida Airsoft Community.

A Tragic Day for Our Navy SEALs

Tragic news hit us recently when a Chinook helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan. On that heli were 25 US Navy SEALs. All are no longer with us. This is one of the largest losses of Special Forces since this war began. To help with the families and loved ones who lost someone close to them, The SFAA is going to donate 50% of all donations to the Navy SEAL Foundation in hopes to help the families who lost someone. Please help show your support and donate now!

Airsoft Street Wear. Yeah, We Like the Sound of That!

All sports seem to have their dedicated street wear. The firearm community, military, law enforcement community have their own too. So give a look, and perhaps support our brothers from across the pond. For more information, please visit www.skirmishclothing.com

Remember, It’s About Honor and Integrity

Every once in a while, each player gets caught up in the heat of the moment. Maybe its the heat, maybe its just that competitive edge most of has. But, in the end we all need to remember two very important things. This sport we play is about honor and integrity. As players, we tend to emulate the men and women of our armed forces and because of that we should emulate them with the honor that they show us. Respect your fellow players as you would those who wear the uniform for a living.

But, I digress. As I stated, we get caught up in the heat of it all. Tempers can rise fairly quickly and it is up to the better player to step back, breathe and approach the situation in a calm collect manner. Take a few moments before saying something to collect your thoughts. Then speak your peace, it will be amazing how far a little respect can go. This is the way to play airsoft.

Now, Thumpy Covey, of NC took a moment to explain the very same thing at his field, when he was playing and made the same mistake. In response to this, he has made this video to help explain how NOT to play airsoft. And if you would like more info about Mr. Covey you can visit his website at http://Thumpmaster6.wordpress.com
